Greatness is a process of becoming, starting with an unwavering and genuine desire, a purpose that serves others and the nurturing of good relationships along the way.
Greatness is inside all of us. However, the path to actualise it not only requires a strong desire to become the best version of ourselves, but a relentlessness to do what it takes with what we have, one day at a time.
Being great is not about ego or selfish desires, non. It is about being in alignment with who we are and what we have to offer that can positively impact the world.
In case you haven't told yourself when you woke up today, there is greatness inside of you!
Yes, even if the reflection in the mirror is slightly challenged right now due to the current confinement we all face (well you know.. no hairdressers 😂) Your talents, your abilities, your purpose and the essence of who you are are in need to be seen.
Today, we'll explore 3 timeless principles that I hope inspire you to bring out your greatness, as you become more of who you are.
1. The principle of self-love and self-belief
Do you love yourself?
Do you appreciate, honour and respect yourself for who you are and what you've overcome?
Do you believe in you and what you can do?
It starts with you, and your mindset about you. Without this, well, it's a very tough gig!
Self-love and self-belief are essential to the greatness journey, they are the ying to the yang of being the best version of ourselves and it's hard to have one without the other. It's one thing to love ourselves, but if we don't believe in our abilities, talents and what we have to offer, it can allow limiting beliefs to win and cause us to never reach our potential.
It's my belief that self-love and self-belief are also a journey, I see them as one joint muscle that need strengthening everyday through regular workouts, massages and care to make it stronger, and dedicated effort to restore it to its full capacity in the event of injury. The more you cater to it, the more you allow it to grow to its rightful measure.
I remember being age 15 and pregnant, with very limited English and studying for my upcoming English GCSE's. On the outside, it looked hopeless for me and I remember the looks and comments of judgement I used to encounter in school and beyond. That said, on the inside, I was filled with determination and encouraged myself relentlessly to succeed. I was so focused on getting the best grades and imagining an amazing future for my child that I refused to let the outside noise in, achieving doubles B in English literature and Language after only arriving in the UK the year before. I share this to testify on the power of self-love and self-belief; it will protect you, guide you and remind you of who you are and where you're meant to go.
*Self love practical tip: Meditate on 1-3 things you love about yourself every day (try saying it to yourself out loud, in front of the mirror). Add one thing you're proud of yourself to have achieved or overcome - once a day.

I dare you to exercise your joint muscle of self-love and self-belief, and see how you'll attract more love and blessings, because you're deserving.
2. The principle of vision and execution
Without vision, we perish. The Good Book (Prov. 29:18) makes it clear.
What vision do you have for your life?
And what is your plan to execute it?
There is vision accompanied by strategic planning, and there's just wishful thinking. If we don't know where we're going and carefully plan for it then we'll wake up smelling the coffee at got-nowhere-land.
At the time I'm writing this, we're already in April 2020 with 8 months and 2 weeks left until the end of the year! There is still so much that can be achieved if the vision and plan for execution are written down and clear.
Every year, I write down a carefully thought out yearly goals list following the SMART approach (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound) as part of my life's vision. I keep it simple and usually have no more than 5 big goals broken down into smaller mini-goals to achieve each month. This keeps me accountable to ensure execution throughout the year and informs all my decisions.
If you are a creative enthusiast like me, you may also enjoy vision boarding. Bring on the collage and decoration! I particularly enjoy this as our vision boards are visual manifestations of what we want, and can be seen all the time (it's the first thing I see when I wake up) I find that mine keeps me encouraged and reminds me of where I want to go. It can also be a great family activity, who knew vision mapping and execution could be so fun!
If you have not yet done so, I urge you to get started on writing your vision and execution plan today by asking yourself some key questions:
What do I really want?
What key areas do I want to see changed by the end of this year?
What does success look like for me in these areas?
What is my strategy to make this happen?
How will I know I've successfully attained these?
You may not have all the pieces to the puzzle, but maybe you have an idea, a nagging vision or desire you can't seem to shake off. Start with that, it may just be an oak tree in seed form!

*Vision & execution practical tip: Write down up to 5 goals you'd like to achieve this year (recommendation is one per life's key categories, e.g: fitness, finances etc.). Then, in a journal, answer the 5 key questions above in relation to each goal you wrote down.
3. The principle of consistency
Consistency is the key to greatness.
With the vision and plan for execution now in place, consistently applying it is the most crutial stage.
Have you ever met someone who consistently exercises, consistently consumes a healthy diet, regularly hydrates and not see their body change? I have not! (I mean the abs, the defined shoulders and toned legs!! Okay, where are my dumbbells?! 😂). It's the principle and law of consistency, it leads to success without fail.
Now don't get me wrong, I have experienced this principle to be tough! I've had shortcomings that were only a matter of consistency. It was the difference between Í did it' and 'If only I...'ie; the voice of regret. But the good news is that even if we fell in the past, we can start again, and make a new choice to not give up.
This principle requires patience, resilience and a whole lot of commitment because the truth is, it's easy to throw in the towel and give up... But the game changer is when we don't, and the challenge is we won't! Are you with me?!
When discouragement comes knocking, not giving up.
When results are slow, not giving up.
When not feeling like it, not giving up.

I have learned that consistency is a daily choice. Consistent effort, consistent hard work, consistent execution of goals, consistent belief in ourselves, one day at a time, will lead to a life of greatness.

*Consistency practical tip: Based on your identified goals and vision, plan each week ahead and break your goals down into small daily activities. E.g; if one of your goals is weight loss or muscle building, plan a set number & style of workouts to do each week (selecting the days in the diary) to reach this goal. This can be applied to all your goals and will help you start each day with intention, at a pace that suits you.
